Dr. Saumyajit Basu Director & Lead Spine Surgeon

Dr. Saumyajit Basu is a senior Spine Surgeon with over twenty years of experience. After Graduating (MBBS) under University of Calcutta, Dr. Basu completed his MS (Orthopaedics) from the same University. He was awarded FRCS (Edinburgh) from Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, UK; DNB (Orthopaedics) from National Board of Education, New Delhi, INDIA and Spinal Fellowship from Centre for Spinal Studies, Queen's Medical Centre, Nottingham, UK.

In his brilliant academic career Dr. Basu has received numerous awards, which include: Sailen Sen Gold Medal in General Medicine in 1992, University 2nd in MBBS in 1992, University 1st in General Medicine in 1992, University 1st in MS (Ortho) in 1997, President's Gold Medal in Orthopedics in 1997, Siliguri Award for the Best Paper in WBOACON in 1999, DePuy ASSI Spinal Fellow in 2003, SRS Global Outreach Programme Education Scholarship in 2004, AOSpine short-term fellowship, Nottingham in 2007.

Dr. Basu has to his credit several scientific publications, and chapters in books. He is regularly an invited speaker in national and international scientific and professional meetings. He stands out as obviously one of the best Spine Surgeons in the country today in terms of both, the quality as well as the volume, of his surgical and academic work. With an experience of performing more than eight thousand successful spine surgeries Dr. Saumajit Basu believes that each patient is a unique study and less than five per cent of patients actually need any surgery to get relief from severe pain and disability. His approach to the patient is very supportive and reassuring.

Dr. Indrajit Roy Lead Neurosurgeon

Dr. Indrajit Roy is a Senior Consultant Neurosurgeon with over 40 years of neurosurgical experience. He did his MBBS from Medical College, Calcutta, MS (General Surgery) from University College of Medicine, University of Calcutta and MCh (Neurosurgery) from Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education and Research, University of Calcutta. He received higher super-specialty training in Micro-Neurosurgery under Prof. M. G. Yasargil at the University Hospital, Zurich, Switzerland, and successfully completed a course in Micro Neurosurgery in 1988.

Dr. Indrajit Roy was awarded College Scholarships for proficiency in studies and won the Government Prize in Clinical Surgery and also the Gold Medal in Surgery.

He has been a Faculty member in the Department of Neurosurgery, Bangur Institute of Neurology, Calcutta with additional charge of Consultant in Neurosurgery at the S.S.K.M. Hospital, Calcutta; Associate Professor of Neurosurgery, MGM Medical College, Kishangunge, Bihar; Professor of Neurosurgery, Era’s Lucknow Medical College, Lucknow and served as Hon. Consultant Neurosurgeon to the South Eastern Railway and Eastern Railway, Calcutta Electric Supply Corporation, and Air India.

Dr. Indrajit Roy has participated in numerous scientific conferences/seminars as Guest Faculty/Chairman/Invited speaker. He addressed The Conference on Science, Spirituality and Education, chaired by HH the Dalai Lama, Gangtok, December 2010 as a state guest, Govt. of Sikkim.

He is a member, Rotary Club of Calcutta and served as Committee Chairman and Board member. He is a Paul Harris Fellow. The Rotary Club of Calcutta Metropolitan conferred an Award of Excellence on Dr. Roy for “his contribution to society and achievement in the field of his vocation”. The Association of Neuroscientists of Eastern India conferred an Honorary Fellowship on Dr. Roy for “significant contribution towards the development of Neurosciences in Eastern India”.

Dr. Indrajit Roy was the Sheriff of Calcutta (2011). He has also held the post of President of The Association of Neuroscientists of Eastern India and is a Past President of The Calcutta Club Ltd.

Dr. Indrajit Roy has contributed articles in scientific journals and written chapters in text books. He has featured on national television and is a writer of articles on Neuro-sciences for the lay-public in newspapers and popular magazines.

Dr. Trinanjan Sarangi Lead Anaesthesiologist and Intensivist

Dr. Trinanjan Sarangi, is a highly skilled and experienced Anaesthesiologist with a deep and abiding special interest in complex and long duration surgical procedures of the spine and brain. A National Scholar in Secondary Examination Dr. Trinanjan Sarangi has a brilliant academic career. After graduating from Bankura Sammilani Medical College, Bankura, West Bengal, he did his MD (Anaesthesiology) from M S Ramaiah Medical College, Karnataka.

Always keen in academic activities Dr. Trinanjan Sarangi was an Assistant Professor at Department of Anaesthesiology, M G M Medical College, Kishanganj. He has won Dr. B C Roy Gold Medal in ANEICON 2004 and has to his credit several scientific publications, and chapters in books. He is regularly invited as speaker in national and international scientific and professional meetings.

With an experience of administering anaesthesia for more than fifteen thousand critical surgeries in last twenty years Dr. Trinanjan Sarangi leads the Department of Anaesthesiology and Critical Care of Spine Surgery patients. His other area of interest is Pain Management.

An able organiser, Dr. Trinanjan Sarangi was the Organising Secretary of ISSPWBCON in the year 2010; a former Executive Committee Member of IISP WB and the Joint Secretary of ISNAC 2009. He also has a great passion for Acting (Drama), Recitation, Literature, Contemporary Arts and Wildlife Photography. An avid Environmental activist, Dr. Trinanjan Sarangi is attached to several benevolent organisations in India and abroad.

Dr. Amitava Biswas Consultant Spine Surgeon

Dr. Amitava Biswas, is an accomplished Spine Surgeon who graduated from Manipal University, Karnataka and was awarded Fellow of Academy of General Education (FAGE). He completed MS (Orthopaedics and Traumatology) from the same University.

After completion of AO Spine (Asia Pacific) Fellowship and Spine Fellowship granted by Spine Research Foundation, under the mentorship of Dr. Saumyajit Basu, Dr. Amitava Biswas has successfully completed the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Spine Fellowship at New Hampshire, USA; Spine Fellowship at Sarawak General Hospital, Kuching, Malaysia (AO-Spine International) under the mentorship of Dr. Wong Chung Chek and obtained special training in minimally invasive spine surgeries, complex deformities and use of spinal navigation. He has also received Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery Fellowship (IGASS) from London Bridge Hospital and completed the prestigious IGASS-2018 Spine Fellowship under the mentorship of Dr. (Prof) Khai Lam. He received Global Outreach Programme (GOP) Scholarship of Scoliosis Research Society (SRS) in 2014 and attended the 21st International Meeting on Advanced Spine Techniques (IMAST 2014) at Valencia, Spain.

Being an active academic enthusiast, Dr. Amitava Biswas has several scientific publications to his credit and has also lectured at many international and national scientific platforms. Previously he was Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeon/Assistant Professor at Central Referral Hospital, Sikkim Manipal Institute of Medical Sciences, Gangtok, Sikkim.

Dr. Sanjit Singh Consultant Anaesthesiologist

Dr. Sanjit Singh is a young, energetic Anaesthesiologist with special interest in Anaesthesia for Spinal and Neurosurgical procedures. After completing his MBBS from North Bengal Medical College he has done DNB (Anaesthesiology) from Medica Superspecialty Hospital, Kolkata. He has trained in Basic Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support Instructor course and also in Basic Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support Provider course from Indian Institute of Emergency Medical Services.
